(Notes:   This example utilizes a Northern-facing Altar. Vocalization examples are set off in italics. It is assumed that all pentagrams are to be drawn with either an Athame or the first two fingers of the projective hand. See Diagram #1 for various pentagram instructions).
  1. Prepare Circle Area
    • If indoors, vacuum and psychically clean
    • If outdoors, move the hose, clear off branches, leaves, other obstacles. li>Psychically sweep with besom, never actually allowing the broom to touch the ground.
  2. Personal Preparation
Take cleansing bath or, in the alternative, wash hands and
    • perform psychic waterfall. With the psychic waterfall, one will visualize a cool waterfall pouring over themselves, cleansing them of all negativity, distracting energies and thoughts.
    • Ground and Center.
    • Anoint forehead with oil. Draw Solar Cross "In the name of the God" Draw Pentagram "In the name of the Goddess" Draw a circle around both "and by the One be blessed and Blessed Be!"
  3. Altar Setup
    • Altar cloth, God/dess candles and representations, elemental representations (censor, charcoal, incense, bowl of water, salt, red candle), Pentacle, Athame, Cakes and Ale, magickal items, any other items to be needed for circle work. (See Diagram #2)
    • Position quadrant candles around the circle area.
    • Light the charcoal in the censor and add incense.
    • Light the Southern representation (red candle) for light.
  4. Cast Circle
    • Take your Sword (or Athame) and walk to the North. With respect, Salute the North (Northern-facing altar) with the Sword, then hold the Sword aloft in front of you and visualize a bright bluish-white flame surrounding the Sword. Draw the Sword down to the circle boundary, visualizing the bluish-white flame flaring out of the tip of the Sword. Walking Deosil (clockwise), draw the circle boundary, visualizing the flame both going down into the floor/ground and up in an arc above you. Complete the circle and salute the North again. The Circle should be surrounding you in a globe above, below and around you.
  5. Elemental Circle Cleansing
    • Purify and Activate Salt: Place the salt container in the middle of the Pentacle. Purify and bless salt with Athame, visualizing energy blasting out the negativity and cleansing the salt so it can dwell in the Sacred Space. Visualize the Powers of Earth awakening in the salt, changing it from mundane use to Craft use. Draw one or three pentagram(s) in the salt with your Athame. "O' Creature of Salt, I purify thee and cast out all negativity! To dwell within this circle, cleansed you shall be, to represent the North and give aid to me!" Replace salt container in its designated place on the altar.
    • Purify and Activate Water: Place the water bowl in the middle of the Pentacle. Purify and bless water with Athame, visualizing energy blasting out the negativity and cleansing the water so it can dwell in the Sacred Space. Visualize the Powers of Water awakening in the water, changing it from mundane use to Craft use. Draw one or three pentagram(s) in the water with your Athame. "O' Creature of Water, I purify thee and cast out all negativity! To dwell within this circle, cleansed you shall be, to represent the West and give aid to me!"
    • Purify the Circle with Earth and Water: Mix Salt and Water to make a purifying blend of Earth and Water. Starting at the North, salute the North with the bowl of salt/water mixture and proceed to aspurge the circle area, circling one time around (or three times, spiraling in), visualizing negativity being "zapped" and banished by the purified mixture as you sprinkle. "By the powers of Earth and Water do I purify this circle, and cleanse it of all negativity. By the powers of Three Times Three, as I will it, SO MOTE IT BE!" When you return to the North, salute again and return the bowl to the Altar.
    • Purify, Activate and Combine Air and Fire by adding incense to the charcoal, visualizing the purifying Fire cleansing the incense, dedicating both Fire and Air to the purification of the Sacred Space. Visualize the Powers of Fire and Air awakening in the charcoal and incense, changing them from mundane use to Craft use. Draw one or three pentagram(s) in the air over the censor with your Athame. "O' Creatures of Air and Fire, I purify thee and cast out all negativity! To dwell within this circle, cleansed you shall be, to represent the East and South, and give aid to me!"
    • Purify the Circle with Air and Fire: Starting at the North, salute the North with the sensor and proceed to smudge the circle area, circling one time around (or three times, spiraling in), visualizing negativity being banished and purified as you smudge. "By the powers of Air and Fire do I purify this circle, and cleanse it of all negativity. By the powers of Three Times Three, as I will it, SO MOTE IT BE!" When you return to the North, salute again and return the censor to the Altar.
  6. Evocation of the Quadrants
    • North: Take the salt bowl from the altar to the North and place it next to the Northern candle. Make appropriate hand sign (arms extended, palms flat, fingers splayed to represent the flat earth) and visualize the woods, or any earthy place. Smell the fresh-turned earth and the green grass. "Hail! Guardians of the North, Spirits of Earth! I call to you in your woods and glens, to invite you to join my Circle! Gnomes! Unicorns! Bring your gifts of strength and healing and protect me in my magickal work! All Hail, and Blessed Be!" Draw a large pentagram, visualizing a bright green flame. Circle the Pentagram with the sign of the One, and draw the green flame down to the Northern candle wick, all the while visualizing the elementals entering your circle through the pentagram. Light the Northern candle.
    • East: Take the censor from the altar to the East and place it next the Eastern candle. Make the appropriate hand sign (arms extended, palms facing outwards, fingers splayed as if you are feeling a breeze through your fingers) and visualize the power of the wind. Feel it buffeting you, blowing your hair. "Hail! Guardians of the East, Spirits of Air! I call to you in your wind-tossed realms, to invite you to join my circle! Fairies! Pegasus! Bring your gifts of creativity and intuition and protect me in my magickal work! All Hail, and Blessed Be!" Draw a large pentagram, visualizing a bright yellow flame. Circle the Pentagram with the sign of the One, and draw the yellow flame down to the Eastern candle wick, all the while visualizing the elementals entering your circle through the pentagram. Light the Eastern candle.
    • South: Take the lit, red candle from the altar and place it next to the Southern candle. Make the appropriate hand sign (arms extended, hand fisted and facing away from your body in a position of strength and power) and visualize the hot, blasted desert lands. Feel a hot fire radiating onto your face. "Hail! Guardians of the South, Spirits of Fire! I call to you in your fiery realm, to invite you to join my circle! Dragons! Salamanders! Bring your gifts of passion and power and protect me in my magickal work! All Hail, and Blessed Be!" Draw a large pentagram, visualizing a bright red flame. Circle the Pentagram with the sign of the One, and draw the red flame down to the Southern candle wick, all the while visualizing the elementals entering your circle through the pentagram. Light the Southern candle.
    • West: Take the water bowl from the Altar to the West and place it next to the Western candle. Make appropriate hand sign (arms extended, palm up and hands either cupped or cupped with the thumb and forefinger touching as if you are holding water within your hands) and visualize the ocean, see the dolphins playing and feel the spray of waves on your face. "Hail! Guardians of the West, Spirits of Water! I call to you in your watery realm, to invite you to join my circle! Undines! Merfolk! Bring your gifts of compassion and emotional healing and protect me in my magickal work! All Hail, and Blessed Be!" Draw a large pentagram, visualizing a bright blue flame. Circle the Pentagram with the sign of the One, and draw the blue flame down to the Western candle wick, all the while visualizing the elementals entering your circle through the pentagram. Light the Western candle.
  7. Invocation of Deity
When invoking Deity, visualize the attributes of the Goddess or the God awakening within you, and inviting into you those same attributes from the Universal Energies.
    • Goddess: "Gracious Mother! The moon, that ancient symbol of You, bathes me in your shimmering radiance! Lady, come and join me in my Circle as I honor and worship You! Hail, Great Mother, andBlessed Be!" Draw a flaming white pentagram, circle it for the One and draw the flame down to the Goddess candle. Light the candle.
    • God: "Lord of the Wood and the Hunt! Come and join me as I honor your Queen and Consort! Bring your Balance of Strength to her Beauty! Hail, Great Lord, and Blessed Be!" Draw a flaming green pentagram, circle it for the One and draw the flame down to the God candle. Light the candle. "THE CIRCLE IS CAST! I am between the worlds, where birth and death, love and hate, joy and sorrow meet as one!"
  8. Raising the Cone of Power
    • If you are going to be performing magick, you may wish to utilize the Cone of Power. Dance, sing and exude a lot of energy Deosil (clockwise) around the circle, visualizing your energy building a vortex above you, forming a solid or woven cone-shape above the circle area. When you feel the Cone has been built sufficiently, anchor it to the four quadrants by visualizing a cord attaching from the lower end of the cone to each quadrant and "tying" it at the quadrant. Perhaps visualize a parachute billowing above you with four cords tying it to the ground at the four quadrants. All your energy and magickal work will empower this Cone so you can send it forth to work your will at the end of your magickal work.
  9. Magickal Work
    • Perform your magickal work now, always keeping the Wiccan Rede in mind.
    • Release the Cone of Power. "Cone of Power, I send you forth upon the Winds of Change! For the Good of All! According to the Free Will of All! Bringing Harm to None and None be Harmed, by the Powers of Three Times Three, as I will it SO MOTE IT BE!"
  10. Blessing of Cakes
    • Place the platter of Cakes on the Pentacle and bless it, purify it with energy and consecrate the Cakes to the Lord and Lady. "I consecrate these cakes in thanks for the bounty of the Land." Set the plate aside.
  11. Symbolic Great Rite
The Symbolic Great Rite is a re-enactment of the sexual union of the Goddess and God, and the creative force of the Universe.
    • Place the Chalice containing your wine on the Pentacle.
    • Grip your Athame and hold it vertically above the Chalice, with the tip pointing down towards the mouth of the chalice. "As the Chalice is to the Goddess and the Athame is to the God, may the two be joined in the Symbol of their Eternal Union!"
    • Lower the tip of the Athame into the chalice. As the tip touches the bottom of the Chalice, visualize the energy in the Athame "impregnating" the wine, cleansing it and consecrating it to the Lord and Lady. Remove the Athame and wipe it clean.
  12. Esbat Worship
    • If you wish, sit back and enjoy the presence of the Lady, Lord and Elementals. Pray, worship, dance or sing as you will. Extend your receptive hand and absorb the energy of the Full Moon and refresh yourself with Her power.
  13. Partaking of Cakes and Ale
    • Take a piece of Cake and raise it before you. "In honor of my Lord and Lady and with thanks for their provision!" Eat the Cake.
    • If outdoors, take a piece of cake and break it over the ground in an offering. "Back to the Earth, return to the Earth. In honor of my Lady, my Lord and the Elementals!" If indoors, perform this offering outside after Circle has been opened.
    • Raise the Chalice in both hands before you. "In honor of my Lady and Lord and with thanks for their provision!" Drink of the Wine.
    • If outdoors, tip the chalice and pour three circles of wine onto the ground. "Back to the Earth, return to the Earth. In honor of my Lady, my Lord and the Elementals!" If indoors, perform this offering outside after Circle has been opened.
  14. Farewell to Deity
    • God: "Lord of the Wood and the Hunt! Thank you for joining me in my Circle! Go if you must, but stay if you will for you are always welcome in my heart, at my hearth and in my home! Blessed Be!" In the original pattern, draw the Pentagram, imagining the flaming green lines being absorbed and disappearing as you trace over them. Do not draw a banishing Pentagram! Draw and absorb the line down to the God candle. Snuff the candle.
    • Goddess: "Gracious Mother! Thank you, Lady, for joining me in my circle as I worshiped you this Esbat! Go if you must, but stay if you will for you are always welcome in my heart, at my hearth and in my home! Blessed Be!" In the original pattern, draw the Pentagram, imagining the flaming white lines being absorbed and disappearing as you trace over them. Do not draw a banishing Pentagram! Draw and absorb the line down to the God candle. Snuff the candle.
  15. Farewell to the Quadrants
(Note: An alternative to the following would be to begin with the West and say farewell to the Elementals in a Widdershins [counterclockwise] motion, ending with the North.)
    • North: Walk to the North. Make appropriate hand sign and visualize the woods, or any earthy place. Smell the fresh-turned earth and the green grass. "Guardians of the North, Spirits of Earth! Gnomes! Unicorns! Thank you for attending my circle and adding your gifts of strength and healing, and for your protection herein! As you return to your woods and glens, go with my thanks and my love! Farewell and Blessed Be!" Draw a large Earth-banishing Pentagram, visualizing the bright green flame being absorbed. Visualize the Elementals returning to their Realm as you circle the Pentagram with the sign of the One, and absorb the green flame down to the Northern candle wick. Snuff the Northern candle.
    • East: Walk to the East. Make appropriate hand sign and visualize the power of the wind. Feel it buffeting you, blowing your hair. "Guardians of the East, Spirits of Air! Fairies! Pegasus! Thank you for attending my circle and adding your gifts of creativity and intuition, and for your protection herein! As you return to your wind-tossed realms, go with my thanks and my love! Farewell and Blessed Be!" Draw a large Air-banishing Pentagram, visualizing the bright yellow flame being absorbed. Visualize the Elementals returning to their Realm as you circle the Pentagram with the sign of the One, and absorb the yellow flame down to the eastern candlewick. Snuff the Eastern candle.
    • South: Walk to the South. Make appropriate hand sign and visualize the hot, blasted desert lands. Feel a hot fire radiating onto your face. "Guardians of the South, Spirits of Fire! Dragons! Salamanders! Thank you for attending my circle and adding your gifts of passion and power, and for your protection herein! As you return to your fiery realms, go with my thanks and my love! Farewell and Blessed Be!" Draw a large Fire-banishing Pentagram, visualizing the bright red flame being absorbed. Visualize the Elementals returning to their Realm as you circle the Pentagram with the sign of the One, and absorb the red flame down to the Southern candlewick. Snuff the Southern candle.
    • West: Walk to the West. Make appropriate hand sign and visualize the ocean, see the dolphins playing and feel the spray of waves on your face. "Guardians of the West, Spirits of Water! Undines! Merfolk! Thank you for attending my circle and adding your gifts of compassion and emotional healing, and for your protection herein! As you return to your watery realms, go with my thanks and my love! Farewell and Blessed Be!" Draw a large Water-banishing Pentagram, visualizing the bright blue flame being absorbed. Visualize the Elementals returning to their Realm as you circle the Pentagram with the sign of the One, and absorb the blue flame down to the Western candlewick. Snuff the Western candle.
  16. Opening the Circle
Using one of the following methods, take down the Sacred Circle:
    • Take your Sword (or Athame) and walk to the North. Salute and draw the blade down to the circle boundary, visualizing the Sword cutting through the bluish-white energy and absorbing it. Walk Deosil (or Widdershins - counterclockwise) around the circle, visualizing the energy both above and below being absorbed. Determine for yourself which direction (Deosil or Widdershins) feels appropriate to you. When you return to the North, salute again. OR,
    • Stand before the Altar and close your eyes. Visualize the bluish white sphere around you and see a break in the top. Visualizing the Circle opening from the top like a clam until it is a half sphere and then drain and ground the power into the earth, in order to draw upon the energy for future circles.
    • "CIRCLE IS OPEN BUT NEVER UNBROKEN! MERRY MEET, MERRY PART AND MERRY MEET AGAIN!"
  17. Circle Clean-Up
    • If indoors, take the Cakes and Ale outside and perform the Offering ritual.
    • Take the bowl of Water from the West and pour it in the nearest stream or, if there is not stream nearby, take it to the sink and turn on the tap. Pour the water into the stream and down the drain, thereby grounding the energy.
    • Extinguish the Southern elemental representative next to the Southern candle.
    • Straighten Altar and circle area or, if you do not have a permanent circle area, gather all tools and candles and put them away for future use.

    BLESSED BE!
